We have too many options when it comes to streaming and bingeing these days, and sometimes that makes it harder to actually decide what to watch. You know you want something, but you don’t quite know what, because everything is just sitting there.

So we’ve put together a Netflix watchlist for you this weekend, from high-stakes drama to cosy, cheesy rom-coms.

Yoh! Christmas

A single woman, under pressure from her family, lies about having a boyfriend and suddenly has weeks to make that lie real before Christmas.

The film leans into a familiar holiday setup but gives you a leading lady who is slightly chaotic and fully committed to digging herself deeper before fixing anything. It is festive, unserious, and easy to coast through.
Cast: Katlego Lebogang, Siya Sepotokele, Didi Makobane, Anthony Oseyemi, Sivuyile Ngesi

A Lagos Love Story

Two opposites collide within Lagos’ aspirational social scene, where love, ambition, and miscommunication unfold in predictable but watchable ways.

It works best when you accept the genre for what it is: a slightly bad romcom. Ignore the missing chemistry, lean into the gloss, and just stare at Michael Afolarin’s delicious face.
Cast: Jemima Osunde, Mike Afolarin, Susan Pwajok

The Herd

A destination wedding unravels into crisis when guests are taken hostage, exposing deeper anxieties around insecurity in Nigeria. Daniel Etim Effiong’s directorial debut is politically sharp and tense, grounded in a reality that feels uncomfortably current.

It is less escapist than the rest of this list, but it holds its weight.
Cast: Daniel Etim Effiong, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Genoveva Umeh, Kunle Remi

Up North

A rebellious heir is posted to Northern Nigeria for national service, where he is forced to confront privilege, find purpose, and unexpectedly fall in love.

With NYSC season here again, the story hits as many are sent into unfamiliar territories that forces reluctant growth. Set in Bauchi, it offers an earnest look at a part of the country that rarely takes centre stage.
Cast: Banky Wellington, Rahama Sadau, Adesuwa Etomi, Kanayo O. Kanayo

Love & Wine

A wealthy heir goes undercover to prove he can win love without his status, only for real emotions to complicate the plan.

It sticks to a familiar romcom structure but keeps things moving with charm and just enough chaos. Polished, flirty, and easy to sit with.
Cast: Ntobeko Sishi, Masali Baduza, Thando Thabethe, Desmond Dube

High Infidelity

A woman’s discovery of her partner’s affair triggers a chain of decisions that spiral into something far more dangerous.

The film leans fully into thriller territory, where desire and betrayal quickly turn volatile. It closes this list on a darker, more intense note.
Cast: Nqobile Khumalo, Ayanda Borotho, Nkosana Samane
